Dharma Heart 2012 Update

Dear Friends of Dharma Heart Soto Zen Practice Space:

Thanks for your patience while DH sittings have been on hiatus this fall. This has allowed me time I needed to work through a couple of personal issues that came up in September.

Now I am very much looking forward to restarting weekly DH sittings in January. I am so happy to be able to tell you that Marcia Camino is welcoming Dharma Heart to her new Pink Lotus Yoga studio at 18103 Detroit Ave. It is right next to the Breadsmith shop at the corner of West Clifton And Detroit.

I've proposed three possible time slots to Marcia that work around her yoga teaching schedule -- and I'd like to get feedback from all of you as to what you might prefer. Here they are:

Saturday morning, 7:00 to 8:30 am
Sunday morning, 7:30 to 9:00 am
Sunday evening, 6:30 to 8:00 pm

This format (1.5 hour) would include zazen, kinhin, zazen, a short chanting service and time for Dharma Study.

I am also interested in seeing if there is ANY interest in early-morning week-DAY sittings. Say, 6:00-7:00 am one or two days a week. -- for example: Monday and Wednesday, or Tuesday and Thursday. This one-hour format would be limited to zazen, kinhin, zazen and a short chanting service (no Dharma Study).

As always, a freewill donation of $5 (or more) is requested. Donations will support Marcia's studio and also help DH build a small nest egg so that we will have the funds to invite well-known Soto Zen teachers for weekend retreats once a year -- like Edward Espe Brown's well-attended weekend retreat last April.

One last note: the Dharma Heart all-day Saturday zazenkais (all-day sittings) will still be held at WestShore Unitarian in Rocky River. The Spring zazenkai is scheduled for Saturday, March 17. There's a freewill donation request of $10 for Saturday zazenkais.

So please reply and let me know if any of these proposed times work for you. And also please reply if you want to attend the March 17 zazenkai.

I hope to practice with you in January!

Deep bows,
Jiden Lynne B.

An Alternative to Facebook

Hello Dharma Heart Friends:

If it becomes necessary to abandon our Facebook page for Dharma Heart, this is an alternative.

My understanding is that FB will impose its new "Pages" design by March 10. That design, by all reports, does not allow users to view posts in chronological order. Instead it sorts them by some mysterious "relevancy" algorithm.

That really doesn't work for our purposes. So it looks like we'll be moving off FB unless they see reason.

The only thing I still need to figure out is how to add an Events Calendar to this. I'm sure as I get used to using it, this will become evident. If anyone has a favorite calendar ap that plugs into this kind of blog, please let me know.
